The Xtracycle platform’s coolest feature, IMHO, is its modularity and ability to customize the platform for specific tasks. Numerous Xtracycle riders have utilized the plug-n-play features of their X’s for years. Wes Trout, an Xtra owner for 3 years, has taken customizing his Xtracycle to an impressive level.
We’ve occasionally interacted via the RootsRadicals Yahoo! Xtracycle user group, but recent record snowfalls and his newest invention, the Snow Plow, caught my eye and I had to get more details on his projects. A big catch in the pursuit of reviving bicycle use in the United States* is teaching and training cyclists how to use and repair their bicycles properly and efficiently.
Thankfully, as part of BicyCAL. To make their offer mobile and flexible, they use an Xtracycle converted bicycle to haul their work stand and tools around to various locations around Berkeley campus.
We applaud and cheer BicyCAL for volunteering their time and energy to building a safer, happier cycling community.

An electrified Xtracycle is joining a fleet of utility bicycles in Portland at the Metro agency. Noting that “13% of all vehicular trips” are bicycles over four bicycle-friendly bridges, the agency wants to encourage the bicycle’s place as a healthy and clean means of transport.
