March of the Xtracycles
In the frigid arctic tundra of Taiwan, few animals can survive the constant battle against the elements. One animal however, has shown time and time again the determination it takes to thrive in sub-zero temperatures and harsh winds: the Xtracycle.
Here the Xtracycles are shown in their long daily march in search of food. When their journey is completed, they will have traveled across the entire pacific ocean to arrive in the abundant feeding grounds of Oakland, California.

The Xtracycle must huddle closely with others to conserve warmth.  Each male Xtracycle will protect a tiny egg, foregoing food and cable television until his little one hatches.

Here is a group of juveniles. ¬†Notice that they have yet to grow their Footsie Stays and dropouts. ¬†However, they can already be identified as belonging to the subspecies of Greater 26″ Xtracycle, as opposed to their endangered cousins, the Lesser 700c Xtracycle.

This group is about to grow into their silver adult plumage.  They will soon take to the water, arriving in North America in mid-August.  Polar bears and marmosets will take their toll on this arduous journey, but the flock faces an even greater threat once they arrive on land: humans.  Many will fall victim to relentless hunting, and be turned into useful and reliable transportation for people everywhere.
